MCI was hired to construct a 13,200sf building at the Brookings Regional Airport. The new hangar includes (4) 3,300sf airplane bays, fitting about 3 planes per bay, with large hydraulic overhead doors at each space. The building serves as a hands-on learning and storage area for the 199 SDSU Aviation students who utilize the space. These students enjoy an efficient and convenient location for the hangar, with its driveway tied directly to the runway approach, and close proximity to the terminal. The college also plans for a future addition to the Northeast side of the building, including a classroom learning space, and 1 additional airplane bay for mechanical repairs and maintenance classes.
