This public bid remodel project was approximately 5,260 square foot of the historic courthouse. We started the demo in the old nurses’ area. We had to remove several gypsum block walls to create a new, more open space which houses the Clerk of Courts. The new area consists of an office, break room, open office area, and a work room. The finishes included wall covering, quartz counter-tops, and salesclerk windows with bulletproof glass. Once that area was completed, we were able to start working on the courtroom. We had to remove several wood stud and sheetrock walls, along with all the flooring. Once all the demo was complete, we were able to start framing the new courtroom, a judge’s chamber, and a jury deliberation room that has its own private bathroom. The jury room is a large open room that will seat about 70 spectators, 14 jurors, lawyers, clients, and the judge. The finishes for this room included new maple pews, maple wall paneling, and quartz tops. Lastly, we finished the project by updating the courtroom’s security. We installed a walk-through x-ray machine and an x-ray baggage scanner.
